Hi, I purchased wowbb 1.7 in January 1st, 2007. My forum is http://www.itcbridge.com/forum My forum is public, and I workaround automatic spammer sign-ups by deleting everyone who has never posted. Today I read somewhere that wowultra has the ability to prevent automatic spammer signup by using captcha. Is this true? The other concern is this: my impression as I look at the web is that wowultra is the new project, a sort of spin-off and improvement from the creator(s) of wowbb. If that is true, does this mean that I am now proud owner of a soon-to-be obsolete product? Are there going to be new versions of wowbb, or am I supposed to buy wowultra? What are the facts? In addition, if buying wowultra is one way to prevent spammers and ensure future support by knowing that I am "following the creator"........I will go for it, but I want to know how difficult is is going to be to change/upgrade from wowbb1.7 - I can't exactly start over again. Hi Keith! I switched to Ultra because the wowbb "powers that be" decided to completely bail out on customer service and no longer respond to any issues. As for the spammers, we installed a simple math equasion that must be worked prior to sign up and our spammer issue completely went away! Have not had one since which is good because we were up to 5 to 10 each day prior. I am sure Jim can direct you... BTW... customer service here is great! Jim has bent over backwards to ease our transition from wowbb to Ultra!

Hi Rome, Thanks for your reply. I believe I have found the answers to some of my questions. At first, I felt a little taken advantage of, but I believe I understand the situation. What it comes down to is this - I'm going to follow the people who are skilled and provide support - plain and simple. So, it would be reasonable to ask - what if something happens to Jim? Who is to say that in 2 years the same thing isn't going to happen again? ......just looking for some reassurance. I am happy to make the change, don't want to sit around with outdated software - I just need to know if I can make the transition from my current wowbb 1.7 board without too many complications. Can my colors and current setup stay the same during the conversion, or will it be a lot of work? Thanks, Keith

I am certain that the majority of your board can be retained if you choose to make the switch.... I think that you would be very happy with Ultra. Jim works very hard on a daily basis to provide us with the best possible product and has no intentions of leaving us high and dry like the wowbb site did. In the time that I have been with Ultra there has been one major upgrade and we just finished beta testing a second. As far as support goes, Jim and Di are top notch. Sometimes I swear that they never sleep. The few times I have had an issue (due to my own ineptitude - not the software) it has been fixed so fast that you would never even know it happened. With Ultra you don't need to worry about being outdated - they are constantly working on growing and tweaking the software - but best of all, they listen to our ideas and the features that WE want to see....

As for transitioning from WowBB to WowUltra, that depends on a couple of things. One being where are you hosted? Are you also hosted with WowBB? If so, will you be switching to our servers? Hi Keith and welcome. Most of us here came over from WOW and for similar reasons that have you considering the change. The spammer trap here works perfectly, only the occasional human spammer manually registers. I delete them if I suspect they are a spammer or if they don't post within a couple of days. I don't think we will see Jim go the same way as Aycan, ie abandoning the community support for the software and either not replying to Private Support requests or just taking too long to do it, Jim is dedicated to what he does. All of us here are very pleased with Ultra and the high level of support from both Jim and Di. Hopefully we will see you here soon Keith and if not I wish you all the best of luck anyway. I currently asked for Flash Chat to be integrated with my WowUltra forum, and was told that it might take until the middle of this month or before Chirstmas. And I was calm about iit, because I have the chat installed as a stand alone chat for now.

Keith A lot of us are accused of being employees of Ultra, from the testimonials we give out so freely, But this is a dream situation, that you may never stumble across again. Jim and Di are two dedicated fine people that have the best customer service in the business, Microsoft could learn a lot from them. I am another Wowbb user and bless the day we moved over to Ultra. This is a very happy forum with more than satisfied customers. I echo everything that has been said about the work and support Jim and Di put into there product. If they could bottle the way they deal with customers and sell it, the would make a fortune!! You only need to read the forums here to see that they are not full of complaints. The only things you will see are requests for help that are promptly answered and in a manner that even the not so technically minded like me, can understand.
