I wondered about this with wowBB, but never asked.  So, I thought I would ask here.  Why does the word filter not edit ONLY the word you want it to, but also any word that has the same letters in succession as the offending word?

por ejemplo:
If I want to filter the word "butt" so that if it is typed in, it is displayed as "rear," ANY word that has the letters "butt" in order in it will also be edited.  Butter will become rearer; buttress will become rearress; button becomes rearon; and so on.

lol... not that I would actually filter the word "butt."  It was just a good example.

test=t***. This will replace test with t***. It will also replace testing with t***ing and so on. For exact matches, enclose bad words in quotes. For example, "test"=t*** will only replace test, not testing. Note: The filter does not make any permanent changes on posts.

Let me add a cute little hack we discovered way in the past to this. You can set up a smiley to replace a word also, but it will respond to partial words like the first example. Just for example, let's say you have a smiley that spells out "censored". Set the smiley up with the "code" of the word you want to censor. Every time that word shows up in a post it will be replaced by the smiley.

You can assign the same smiley as many codes as you want by "adding" it again.

AWESOME!!!  Thanks so much.  I knew there must be a way to do it!  We don't reslly use the word filter to filter bad words.  We allow pretty much anything on our board.  We use it as a joke, to mess with people.  lol

Well, to mess with people, and fix a bit of one of our members horribly bad spelling. She gets ridiculed otherwise.
