Hi all I help out as admin on a wowbb 1.7 forum. We are considering upgrading to wow ultra. In the meantime the board has gone down and this message appears. Anyone know what thismeans. Thanks. Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: User pbhairco_pbhairc already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections in /home/pbhairco/public_html/forums/databases/mysql.php on line 25 User pbhairco_pbhairc already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections Unable to connect to database server

I looked it up because I could not say it plainly with my own words.... Good luck trying to contact anyone at Wowbb...My advice is move your board as soon as possible. "Your servers mysql configuration "max_user_connections" is set too low. This doesn't allow enough concurrent connections at a time. If it was set at 10 and you had 30 users online, the chances would be good that 10 of them will be accessing the database at the same time. You can check this in your phpMyAdmin, from the home page click on "Processes", then in the tabs at the top you should see "Variables". Scroll down to "max_user_connections".

100% correct on the above post. Hi Big Mac, this problem can only be cured by switching hosts or convincing the host to either clear some accounts off the server or up the max connections. You can only set max connections so high before it starts conflicting with apache it's self. If you switched to Ultra on that server it would not cure the problem. You would gain a lot of functions during the times the board did work....... Jim

Hi, you only have to read the posts from Ultra users to see how happy we all are here. The only glitch I have had was after a severe storm and that was very short lived. My advice would be to switch over to Ultra and use their server.

I agree With Mag. If I were You, I would move your whole operation over to Ultra and Data1 Systems. WOWbb is a sinking Ship right now from all indications. Most of us have moved over here from WoWbb and have learned from experience. Just look at this Board, not one complaint ever about the service. Jim will advise you honestly and in the direction that will benefit you the most. We would like to see you become part of the Ultra Club.

Thanks guys for your advice. The forum is back up now.I have to wait to find out why the problem occurred. I dont own the forum we have ,just admin but the owner is seriously looking at a change. I take it by the posts on here Ultra and BB are nothing to do with each other. I would like to ask what the benefits are switching to Ultra as most of the features are the the same or similar. Can this be upgraded so more than one picture can be uploaded to a single post rather than having to upload one picture per post with the browse function. How will the problem we just had with BB not happen with Ultra. Thanks Bigmac.

Bigmac 1st let me say that the 1st mod to Ultra I received makes it better than WoWbb, The user activation Mod. We Then Received a major upgrage to Ver 1.15 and now awaiting Ver 1.17 any day now. Ultra is Constantly improving. Getting better all the time. Jim Worked at WOWbb prior to starting Ultra. I can't say about uploading more than one picture per post, but I would like to see it myself. You can see the changes in Ver 1.15 by reading the home page of this board and soon the changes that will be made by Ver 1.17. All License Holders were invited to participate in Beta Testing for Ver 1.17 a little over a month ago and most did. It appears to me that WoWbb has become somewhat stagnant and isn't being supported very well any more. This is Not The case Here. Jim will help his customers when he isn't making a penny off it. His Attitude is Super!

bigmac wrote: Thanks guys for your advice. The forum is back up now.I have to wait to find out why the problem occurred. Hi Bigmac, Tho the core of Ultra is wowbb1.7, Jim and I have been and are developing Ultra into a totaly different direction than what Aycan is doing with Wowbb. Those who were part of our Beta testing last month can vouch for that just from the many features and fixes they saw during the testing of our new version. As far as multiple attachments in post, we can do it but it would be irresponsible of us to do so now while the attachments are still in the database. We have plans to remove the attachments from the database and place them in a folder of their own. Once we have completed those plans, then we will make it so that users can post multiple attachments. As Jim stated in a previous post, your problem will not go away if you switch to Ultra as long as you are still with your current host. Jim personally configures our servers so that they can handle the traffic from our customers' boards. Feel free to PM Jim and ask him questions about our servers. Di

Thanks DI and everyone else who has replied. The owner of our forum has to work all this weekend and hasn`t got a lot of spare time at present. Hopefully he will have the time by the middle of this week and i`ll direct to this post and he can ask Jim what he needs to know. Thanks all.

Hi everybody, I run the forum with Bigmac running on WoWbb 1.7 mentioned above. The database connections hadn't actually exceeded the max_user_connections value, but according to my ISP, the connections were left "hanging". My ISP suggested I ensure that I have the latest version of the software and WoWbb said it was a problem with my ISP. I leased WoWbb a little over a year ago and chose to lease instead of purchasing because leasing included free "major updates". I started with 1.7 and haven't had a single update never mind a "major" update The problem of only being able to upload one picture/post is a major problem for our forum as it involves posting a lot of pictures. The other main problem is with the logon cookie; members of the forum are continuously complaining about not being able to log in without completely deleting all their cookies. The reset cookie function doesn't appear to work. Have there been any changes to the cookie in Ultra Wow? As mentioned above, WoWbb does appear to be a sinking ship. I would like to see some improvements in Ultra WoW before switching over. If attachments are moved from the database into a folder, how would this affect upgrading from WoWbb to Ultra? Would you provide some sort of conversion script to make pictures that have already been posted still available? Last edited on Sat Dec 6th, 2008 11:17 pm by PB |

Welcome to the forum PB! It could have very well been the settings on the server causing this to happen. The default setting for closing open queries on most server installs is 300 seconds. Even on busy boards a single SQL query takes less than a second but there might be hundreds of consecutive ones. The Data 1 servers close inactive connections in 30 seconds which is 10 times faster than stock. I have run it as low as 4 seconds but 30 seems to be a good blend because I like to randomly monitor connections and sometimes 4 seconds isn't enough to see it! Anyhow honestly we are about 6 months or better from completely removing attachments from the database and yes there will be a converter. The cookie is rarely a problem on ultra but honestly again it is more in the way the board is configured than the software it's self. It also has a lot to do with the way the forum is accessed, if you have multiple parked domains you have to set the cookie differently than if you have a single entry point. If it is a sub domain you have to do it differently. But then again we have an active community and our service is a daily job. In the event there are problems we repair things quickly. All you have to do is read a little to see this

Thanks for the welcome and reply Jim I have changed the cookie setting so that its value is ".domainname.co.uk". The same forum is registered with a .com domain name, so I guess that would cause problems if users are switching between the two. I'll have a good look at this forum as I have a lot of questions but I guess I'll find answers to most of them by reading through the posts on here. PB

If there is more than one domain accessing the board the cookie domain has to be blank BUT you have to do it in a couple steps to keep from causing problems. In this order: You have to shut the board off. You have to change the cookie name. You have to change the cookie domain field to contain nothing ("") You have to wait a minute longer than your session settings time. This will log everyone out and you will get a bunch of forgot password questions (cured in UltraBB 1.17 with password set in admin panel) but nobody should have any problems after that. The way you have it currently there is no possible way to log in from the .com address.

Hi Bigmac. Most of us here came here because of similar experiences that you are experiencing now. I haven't seen one person here who regretted the move.

The pictures won't be a problem. All the actual pics in your database will be transferred, as will all the links in posts to external pics. My forum database had about 450,000 posts and a search index standing at 1.2gb, but the transfer from the WOW server to the Ultra one went flawlessly. I mean absolutely without any problems at all and everything worked (much better) immediately after Jim turned the board back on. The whole thing was stress-free for me, although Jim had to put in a lot of hours doing the transfer.
